Jazztronica album Sketches Of Spin released 2022.
Sketches Of Spin, the new jazztronica album from keyboardist Mike Kapitan, is an outgrowth of his love of electronic music and the influence of synth heroes Jan Hammer and Joe Zawinul. Orchestrating synths to create new textures and atmospheres for improvisation was the goal of this grooving and deeply atmospheric release recorded solo during the pandemic.
Track three, Big D, featuring bassist John Leftwich (Freddie Hubbard, Rickie Lee Jones) is a celebration of a 100 year old Morelli five-string acoustic bass with its big low D.
Track eleven, End Of Day Music, features a sampled Una Corda, a one-string per key upright piano with a very pure tone. It’s close miked so every mechanical noise inside becomes part of the overall sound.
